The USAID Mission to Benin is focused on the objective of investing in people. Since 1991, USAID has invested $385 million in the people of Benin and its efforts to grow its economy and consolidate its democracy. Today, our program focuses on:
- expanding the use of family health services and preventive measures in a supportive policy environment
- ensuring that a quality basic education is more widely available on an equitable and sustainable basis
- assisting vulnerable and at risk populations, primarily women and children, with social services and protection.
|
Combating corruption by promoting good governance, responsible management, and accountability is a cross-cutting theme of all USAID programs in Benin.
USAID manages three presidential initiatives:
- The President's Malaria Initiative (PMI), to cut malaria deaths by 50 percent in pregnant women and children under five years of age;
- The Women's Justice and Empowerment Initiative (WJEI) to combat gender-based violence and promote the rights of women; and
- The African Education Initiative (AEI), to promote girls primary school enrollment and completion, and improve management of the basic education system.
