Nepalese child receives Vitamin A supplement
Over three million Nepali children are now receiving twice-yearly vitamin A supplements and about 15,000 child deaths are averted each year in Nepal as a result of USAID’s program. The program reaches a remarkably high percentage of Nepal's children with only limited outside support. Over 40,000 trained Female Community Health Volunteers distribute the capsules, assisted by more than 100,000 health staff, teachers, local non-governmental organization members, politicians and other community leaders. The last round of supplements reached 98% of Nepali children under age five in all of Nepal’s 75 districts.
